The much-anticipated fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is set to commence on July 1. It promises three weeks of exciting IPL-like T20 cricket action featuring a blend of international and Sri Lankan cricket stars. The matches will be held at three iconic venues: the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla, and the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, Kandy.

The league will showcase a stellar lineup of international players from the five participating franchises. Notable names include New Zealand all-rounders Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman, Bangladesh pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, Pakistani stars Shadab Khan and Agha Salman, West Indies veterans Andre Fletcher and Fabian Allen, and renowned Afghan spinners Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, and Noor Ahmad. South African cricketers Rilee Rossouw and Reeza Hendricks will also be added to the international lineup.
The Sri Lankan contingent is equally impressive, featuring big names from the national team, such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Isuru Udana, Maheesh Theekshana, and Kusal Mendis. These players will represent the five franchises: Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy.
The league stage will run from July 1 to 16, with each team playing against the others twice at the aforementioned venues. Following the league stage, the playoffs will take place at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, starting on July 18. The grand finale is scheduled for July 21.
