The Australian pace bowler Brett Lee believes that Jasprit Bumrah is one of the most influential bowlers of his time. One thing that makes him the most impactful bowler is his accuracy with a yorker.
Speaking at the launch of Legends International T20 League, Lee pointed out the rarity of fast bowlers effectively executing yorkers, with Bumrah being a notable exception. This underscores the exceptional nature of Bumrah’s skill.
Lee further emphasized the strategic importance of yorkers, particularly in the death overs of an inning. He cited them as one of the most lethal deliveries in the IPL, a testament to their game-changing potential.
Talking about the batters getting innovative in the shortest format of the game, he said, “I’m all for batters smoking the ball all over, but there has got to be something for the bowlers too. I’m not asking for a green top, where teams bowled out for 110, because that’s not good for cricket either.”
Later, commenting on the Australian Cricket team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, he said that Warner had been a good enough servant for his nation to retire on his terms. This comes after many questions were raised regarding Frazer McGurk’s absence. Lee said that the player needs to be patient for his time to come.
The Australian squad, announced earlier this month, includes David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh in the top order.
Lee believes that McGurk should be a part of the squad as a reserve batter, which might open an opportunity for him later on the team if someone gets injured.
