Former Indian cricketer and KKR captain Gautam Gambhir has finally returned to the team after a two-year hiatus. He was a prominent team player and mentor, under whose captaincy KKR won the titles.
Now, after almost seven years of break, the player has decided to return to the team, and several reports are dwindling about how the team could have managed to grab the player from Lucknow Super Giants’ clutches.
KKR last qualified for the Playoffs in the 2021 season. They went on to play the final of the tournament that year, only to be defeated by CSK. Since then, they have failed to make it out of the league stage. Hence, to change things up and look at the progress GG has made at Lucknow, the management decided to lure him back to his roots at Kolkata Knight Riders.
Bringing Gautam Gambhir back to KKR, however, was no easy task. According to some reports floating around the internet, the co-owner offered a blank cheque to the former player. There is no claim on whether the player accepted that or not. Gambhir joined the KKR team after that news.
There will be tremendous pressure to deliver on Gautam Gambhir, especially considering his recent track record with Lucknow Super Giants. They have managed to reach the playoffs in both the seasons that they have played under Gambhir’s mentorship.
The way he manages and marshalls his troops and resources is commendable. He breathes life and fire into his players, which is evident on the field. Hence, with him at the helm of KKR, the team will expect nothing less than a playoff spot.
