Australian allrounder Ellyse Perry has been in scintillating form for RCB in this particular season of WPL. She just pulled off a stellar bowling performance in the final group stage match, clinching six wickets.
However, her batting took the front row in the Eliminator game against MI on Friday, which saw RCb reach their first-ever final of WPL.
Perry’s Act rescue act takes them to maiden WPL final
Perry starred with the bat in hand on the pitch, which clearly helped the bowlers. She entered the crease after Sophie Devine’s departure in the second over and saw Mandhana, the orange cap holder, fall prey to Nat Sciver-Brunt just two deliveries later.
At that point, RCB struggled at 20 for 2 in just 2.2 overs. They could only add 1 run before Disha Kasat departed for a nought from seven deliveries.
Perry stood her ground through this challenging period. She decided to see things through and allowed the new ball’s onslaught to end. Then, pacing her inning with singles and doubles, she aced the power-hitting game towards the end of her inning. As a result, Perry ended up with 66 runs to her name from just 50 balls.
In her inning, she smashed 8 fours and 1 six, the most by any batter in the entire game. Her efforts took RCB to a respectable total of 130, which was still below par according to today’s game standards.
RCB spins to win as Patil Shines in death overs
That is when the RCB bowlers decided to step up the game. Perry bowled her full quota of 4 overs, giving away just 27 runs. However, it was a Sreyanka Patil show with the ball in hand.
In her 4 overs, Patil gave away just 16 runs and took 2 crucial wickets of Harmanpreet Kaur and Haley Matthews. With 20 needed from the last 3 overs, the game was done and dusted for RCB. But their bowlers had not given up. They fought hard to succeed, albeit by a slender margin of 5 runs.
Ellyse Perry was crowned the player of the match for her fighting knock in the first inning. Her efforts took RCB over the line in a fighting encounter against the Mumbai Indians.
