In a startling development, Brydon Carse, the renowned Durham and England bowler was hit with a 3-month ban and a staggering 13-month suspension. This severe penalty was imposed after he admitted to violating cricket’s corruption rules.
According to The Guardian, Carse was found guilty of placing 303 bets on various cricket matches over a period of more than two years.
Although the player did not make any bets on the games in which he participated, the sport’s betting integrity rule prohibits professional players, coaches, and support staff from betting on cricket played anywhere in the world.
The Cricket Regulator, established last December to monitor compliance and regulations of the game, has mentioned in a statement that Carse has been very cooperative with the investigation and has “demonstrated significant remorse for his actions.”
Carse in his statement said, “whilst the bets were several years ago, that is no excuse and I take full responsibility for my actions… I would like to thank the ECB, Durham, and the Professional Cricketers’ Association for their support during this difficult time for me. I will be working hard in the next 12 weeks to ensure that I repay that support on the field when I’m able to return to playing.”
Carse made his first-class debut for Durham in 2016. Five years later, he played for England in an ODI in 2021. His last appearance for the national side came in December 2023. He played 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is during this time, claiming 15 and 3 wickets in each format, respectively.
