During the recent clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, bowler Harshit Rana from KKR found himself embroiled in controversy due to a breach of the Code of Conduct. This transgression led to Rana’s suspension for one IPL 2024 game, coupled with a fine amounting to 100% of his match fees.
Harshit Rana has been fined once again for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
The incident unfolded during match 47 at Kolkata’s revered Eden Gardens stadium. Rana was found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He promptly admitted to the violation and accepted the subsequent sanction imposed by the Match Referee, resulting in the disciplinary action against him.
Despite facing this setback, Harshit Rana has undeniably been a standout performer in IPL 2024, garnering attention for his exceptional bowling prowess. With an impressive tally of 11 wickets in just eight matches, Rana has showcased his talent on the field. However, this isn’t Rana’s first brush with disciplinary action, as he had previously incurred a 60% fine of his match fees from the BCCI for an unsportsmanlike flying-kiss send-off to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Mayank Agarwal.
Rana’s actions during the match drew criticism from fans and cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar alike. Gavaskar expressed his disappointment, stressing the importance of sportsmanship and etiquette in cricket. He remarked, “He should not have done that. Did the batsman do anything to him when he was hitting him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics.”
Despite the controversy, Rana’s on-field contributions cannot be overlooked. Securing two crucial wickets by dismissing Abhishek Porel and Rasikh Salam, he played a pivotal role in KKR’s seven-wicket victory, aiding the team in retaining their second position in the IPL points table.
