Pakistan’s special court in the controversial Cypher case has given 10-yearprison to Imran Khan and senior leader of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Both have been booked for leaking confidential state secrets.
The case was registered in the month of August by 10 witnesses who were brought by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency to give statements on revealing official diplomatic communication by them.
According to the statement from PTI, his political party the court has held Khan accountable for disclosing the contents of a secret cable from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington to the government in Islamabad.
Before the court’s verdict, he was serving 3 years prison for the Toshakhana corruption case. With the latest development that came ahead before parliamentary elections in Pakistan, he had alleged the use of legal cases to sideline him.
He even alleged the United States of toppling his government in 2022. The Washington and Pakistan military has denied his accusations.
Hours after Khan was sentenced, a bomb in Pakistan’s Balochistan killed 3 PTI members. On the other hand, his media team posted a message stating “These people want to provoke you by imposing severe sentences on me, so to make you come on the streets and protest, and then add unknown people to the crowd weaving another false flag operation.”
With the recent Verdict of imprisonment with his wife Bushra Khan for illegally selling state gifts along with other 150 pending cases against him, the irony lies in his statement where he urges his supporters to vote for candidates supported by him on February 8.
