The Indian cricket team made history by winning their second T20I World Cup. During this game, they also broke the record for the highest total in a T20 World Cup final.
Led by Virat Kohli’s game-changing inning of 76 and Axar’s powerful 47, India posted a total of 176 for South Africa to chase down at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Sunday.
India break record of highest score at T20I World Cup final
It was a shaky start for the Indian team; they lost three wickets inside the powerplay itself, with just 34 runs on the board. Their best batters from previous games, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav, all made their way back with cheap scores.
This left Virat Kohli with the task of resurrecting the inning, and he fulfilled it with Axar Patel. Together, they added 76 runs for the fourth wicket. Patel looked in good touch until he hit one straight down Long-on’s throat.
Fighting to justify his selection over Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube played a handy cameo. The CSK stalwart is 27 off 16 with three fours and 1 six. A team effort from top to bottom saw India reach the historic figure of 176.

With this total, they broke the record of 173, which was previously held by Australia in 2021 against New Zealand. Kohli also registered the second-highest individual score by an Indian in the final. He also holds the record with his 77 runs inning from the 2014 final.
Playing in their first ICC World Cup final, South Africa came tantalizingly close to winning the game. They looked all set to win their first World Cup title but eventually faltered.
India eventually emerged victorious by a margin of 7 runs, becoming the first team in the sport’s history to end a T20 World Cup without a single loss.
