Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza has lauded the Indian Premier League (IPL), expressing his belief that it surpasses the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Set to represent Punjab Kings in the upcoming IPL 2024 season, Raza emphasized the IPL’s distinctiveness with the availability of top international players and the passionate crowd support.
In an interview with Sports Now, Raza acknowledged the IPL’s exceptional appeal, attributing it to the participation of top-tier players worldwide. He noted that the vibrant crowd atmosphere, a unique feature of the IPL, is only rivalled by the PSL in terms of fan engagement. While Raza plays for Punjab Kings in the IPL, he represents Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.
Raza emphasized the IPL’s preeminence, asserting it as the premier cricket league globally and highlighting its superiority over the PSL. The upcoming IPL 2024 will mark its 17th season, while the PSL is set to commence its ninth season in March.
IPL is much better than PSL: Sikandar Raza Remarked
“IPL is by far the best league when it comes to PSL also. Like, it is much better than PSL. That’s what I’m trying to say. Yeah, I’m not a big fan of comparisons. But yes, it is. I think IPL is the biggest league on the planet,” remarked Raza.
Reflecting on his association with IPL franchise Punjab Kings, Raza expressed deep gratitude, especially considering they were the sole team to bid for him in the IPL 2023 auction. The franchise acquired Raza for Rs 50 lakh during the IPL 2023 mini-auction.
“IPL is such a big and global event that I am very grateful and blessed that Punjab picked me. And I don’t think I can ever repay their faith. I mean, they were the only team that raised the baton on the auction day. So, if they hadn’t done that, I don’t think I would have been part of IPL last year, let alone this year,” acknowledged Raza.
As he prepares to contribute to Punjab Kings’ campaign, Raza hopes to guide the team to its maiden IPL title when the 2024 season commences in March.
