The role of head coach of the Indian cricket team is up for grabs, and several names have been reportedly applied for the job. One of those names is that of Justin Langer, the former player and coach of the Australian Cricket team.
Following the announcement that Rahul Dravid wouldn’t be reapplying, rumours spread that players and coaches from around the globe could take up the job.
Justin Langers was named as a forerunner for the job. The Aussie had not confirmed or denied the news of his association with the role until Lucknow’s win in their final league match in IPL 2024.
Following the competition of the game, Langer addressed the press conference in which some questions regarding his interest in the position of head coach of the Indian Cricket team were thrown at him. While replying to those questions, Langer stated the importance of the job. He identified it as a great challenge, a fun and wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles.

However, there was also some reluctance in his tone when he said, “It would almost be the biggest job in cricket- being the head coach of Indian Cricket team. One, because of the huge volume of cricket, the huge expectations. It would be a great challenge.” He further added, “I’m sure the next person who gets the job will be really looking forward to the project.”
With the last statement, he slowly withdrew himself from the contention rumours. Langer was in charge of the Australian Cricket team from 2018 to 2022. Hence, he is aware of the gruelling demands of the role.
As things stand in the coaching front of the Indian Cricket team, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the next coach, given the long line of names the position has seen over the years.
Coaching the Indian cricket team is one of cricket’s most promising and demanding aspects. And anyone who takes up the job will have to dedicate every last inch of his mind, body, and soul to the job.
