In an exclusive conversation on the Delhi Capitals Podcast, Delhi Capitals’ Captain Meg Lanning shared insights into her life post-retirement from international cricket. The former Australian Captain expressed contentment with her decision and revealed that stepping away from the demands of international cricket has brought a sense of relief.
Embracing Social Media
Reflecting on her decision to retire from international cricket, Lanning acknowledged the challenges of maintaining a certain image as the Australian Captain. She admitted feeling constrained by expectations but emphasised that retiring has allowed her to shed the weight of constant scrutiny and pressure.
“I definitely feel lighter after retiring from international cricket. When you’re the Australian Captain, you get used to being seen in a certain way, and it feels like you can’t let your guard down too much,” shared Lanning.
Lanning also discussed her evolving relationship with social media, noting that she feels more relaxed and authentic online. She credited her newfound freedom to relinquishing her international cricket duties and commended the Delhi Capitals’ innovative approach to social media.
“I am a bit more relaxed around social media now. It’s been really cool to come into the Delhi Capitals environment, where social media is done a little bit differently. There’s a lot of thought behind the ideas that the social media team comes up with at DC, and I’ve tried to embrace some of those ideas,” remarked Lanning.
Team Unity and Camaraderie
The Delhi Capitals’ skipper praised the inclusive and supportive environment within the franchise, highlighting the equality and camaraderie among players. According to Lanning, the positive team culture translates into strong performances on the field, making the Delhi Capitals a well-run franchise.
“Nobody’s more important than anyone else, and you can’t tell the difference between who’s playing and not playing. Everyone enjoys spending time with each other, and that translates into our performance on the field. The Delhi Capitals is a really well-run franchise,” Lanning stated.
Despite her cricketing commitments, Lanning has seized the opportunity to explore local attractions during her time in India. From sampling the culinary delights at charming cafes to discovering hidden gems in Mumbai and Bengaluru, the legendary cricketer has savoured the cultural experiences offered by the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
“Cricket has taken me to some amazing places and some places that I wouldn’t have travelled otherwise. The WPL has given me a good opportunity to go out and see some places locally in India. I look for a good cafe most of the time, and I found a couple of nice spots in Mumbai and Bengaluru,” shared Lanning.
