During a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 match, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir was captured on video fuming at a fan who called him a ‘fixer’. Playing for Quetta Gladiators, Amir’s confrontation with the fan has sparked controversy, raising questions about player-fan interactions in cricket.

Incident at Karachi Stadium

Following Quetta Gladiators’ fixture against Lahore Qalandars on Sunday, March 10, in Karachi, a viral video surfaced showing Amir engaged in a heated argument with fans in the crowd. Amidst chants of his name, one fan reportedly labelled him a ‘fixer’, triggering Amir’s strong reaction. In the video, Amir is seen confronting the fan and later hurling abuse at him in response to the derogatory remark.

Amir’s outburst comes in the backdrop of his involvement in the infamous spot-fixing scandal during the Lord’s Test in England in 2010. The left-arm seamer, along with his captain Salman Butt and teammate Mohammad Asif, faced bans after being found guilty of intentionally bowling no-balls as per instructions. Despite serving his ban and returning to cricket, Amir continues to face scrutiny and backlash from fans over his past actions.

Performance in PSL 2024

In the ongoing PSL 2024 season, Amir has struggled to make a significant impact. His performance has been below expectations, with just six wickets from seven games at an average of 37.66 and an economy rate of 8.69. However, in Quetta Gladiators’ recent match against Lahore Qalandars, Amir claimed a crucial wicket by dismissing Lahore’s captain, Shaheen Afridi, contributing to his team’s victory.

Despite Amir’s off-field altercation, Quetta Gladiators secured a thrilling win over Lahore Qalandars. Chasing a target of 167 runs, Quetta’s batters delivered a strong performance, with Saud Shakeel leading the charge with an unbeaten 88 runs off 65 balls. Mohammad Wasim Jr’s last-ball six sealed the victory for Quetta Gladiators, ensuring their qualification for the tournament’s knockout stages.
