The Pakistan cricket team can’t seem to catch a break since they were knocked out of the T20 World Cup last month. Now, they are stuck by a fresh thunderbolt of senior players misbehaving with the coaching staff.
Head coach Gary Kirsten has taken a stand, accusing Saheen Afridi of misbehaving with coaches and support staff. This serious allegation has further exacerbated the team’s internal issues.
The coach had earlier accused the team of lacking unity. However, these reports have added fuel to the already burning fire of the Pakistan cricket team’s management.
The aftermath of the T20 World Cup defeat saw the sacking of the entire selection committee, including players such as Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq. This was just the beginning of a series of setbacks for the team.
Shaheen Afridi set TO BE IGNORED for Bangladesh series as PCB is planning a strict action for the misconduct.
On the recent England tour, Afridi was bowling too many no-balls and when pointed out by the coach, he said “Let me practice for now and don’t talk in the middle.” pic.twitter.com/hwetAMLvQ1
Shaheen Afridi accused of misbehaviour with coaching staff
According to reports on Geo News, Afridi’s behaviour towards the coaches has been labelled as inappropriate. Although the exact nature of the misconduct is not disclosed as of now, it is believed that the team managers neglected the behaviour and failed to impose any disciplinary action on the player.
Shaheen Afridi was named captain of the Pakistan Cricket team after the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Babar Azam stepped down from the post, after which Afridi was handed the charge. However, he was soon removed from the role after his team suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat against New Zealand.
Pakistan also failed to make a mark in the T20 World Cup. Even when Babar Azam was reinstated as captain, he was unable to procure the right results.
The 2022 World Cup finalists against England were knocked out of the tournament in the group stage, leading to further speculations and doubts regarding the team’s management and institution.
