The Pakistan Cricket Team seems to be experiencing some internal conflict following Babar Azam’s reappointment as captain. According to reports on the internet, their ace speedster Shaheen Afridi has left their training camp after being snubbed as captain.
On April 5th, it was announced that Babar Azam will be reinstated as the captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team ahead of the T20I World Cup later this year.
Shaheen, who had taken the mantle from Babar after the 2022 World Cup loss, was supposed to be the new torchbearer. However, Pakistan had a poor run of form under his captaincy recently. Afridi was the side’s captain in a series against New Zealand, which they lost by 1-4. Hence, in an emergency meeting, PCB decided to reinstate Babar as the captain.
The PCB has claimed the player has departed with permission and no frustration. He will most likely be featured at the dinner hosted by the Pakistan Army Chief on the 8th of April.
Several rumours have been floating around the internet regarding the player’s displeasure with the national cricket board. After his removal from the position of captain, he also posted a cryptic message, which sent a warning to the board.
“Never put me in a position where I have to show you how cruel and ruthless I can be. Don’t test my patience. Because I might be the kindest and sweetest person you’ve ever met, but once I reach my limit, you’ll see me do the things that no one thought I was capable of doing,” said a person in a video that Shaheen had posted.
With a big tournament coming up, PCB will be hoping to settle the matter between the players and enter the tournament as favourites.
