The BCCI announced on Wednesday that All-rounder Shivam Dube has been selected to replace the injured Nitish Reddy in the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. India is set to play five T20 Internationals in Zimbabwe from 6th July, with all matches scheduled in Harare.

“The men’s selection committee named Shivam Dube as replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe,” the BCCI said in a statement. The medical team closely monitors Reddy’s progress as he recovers from his injury.

Young talents Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy were recently rewarded for their impressive performances in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) season with their first India call-ups for the white-ball tour of Zimbabwe. These selections emphasise promoting young talent into the national team, especially with the senior players rested.

During the series, India’s squad will be led by Shubman Gill. Senior players like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah have been given a break following their participation in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas. This rest period is crucial as these players prepare for a demanding cricket season ahead.

Despite Not Being Selectors’ First Choice for the Team, Dube Marks Crucial Comeback

An unfortunate injury to Nitish Reddy made the way for Shivam Dube to mark his comeback in the Blue jersey. Dube is yet to prove himself after the well-deserved addition in the T20 World Cup. Notably, he received the national call-up on his 31st birthday on 26th June.

Shivam Dube’s inclusion brings experience and all-around ability to the squad. Dube’s ability to contribute with the bat and ball makes him a valuable asset for the Indian team. His performances in domestic cricket and previous international outings have demonstrated his potential.
