Vijay Mallya, the former owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), extended his heartfelt congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team for clinching the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 title. While the men’s team has yet to secure an Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy, the women’s team achieved a remarkable feat by winning the WPL title in only the second season of the tournament. Taking to social media, Mallya expressed his joy and wished the men’s team good Luck in their future endeavours.

RCB Women’s Triumph and Mandhana’s Leadership

Following their victory over Delhi Capitals in the final, RCB women’s team captain Smriti Mandhana credited the solid backing from the management for their success. Reflecting on their journey, Mandhana highlighted what they learned from the previous season, emphasising the crucial role played by management in supporting the team through challenges and setbacks.

“Heartiest congratulations to the RCB Women’s Team for winning the WPL. It would be a fantastic double if the RCB Men’s Team won the IPL which is long overdue. Good Luck,” Mallya posted on X.

While the women’s team celebrated their triumph, Mandhana expressed gratitude to the franchise’s loyal fanbase for their unwavering support. Despite facing ups and downs, Mandhana praised the team’s resilience and unity, highlighting the importance of peaking at the right time in tournaments like the WPL.

The victory in the WPL final was achieved through a collective team effort, with standout performances from players like Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux in bowling and Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Elysse Perry in batting. The spin pair of Patil and Molineux played a pivotal role in restricting Delhi Capitals to 113 runs, while Mandhana, Devine, and Perry guided RCB to victory with a composed batting display.
