In an exciting outing between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli was left teary-eyed as his team defeated the five-time champions to book a berth in the playoffs of IPL 2024.
The game was a high-intensity drama, given that just winning wouldn’t have ensured RCB’s qualification. They needed to restrict CSK to a total below 201 to qualify.
Virat Kohli was the most animated player on the field ever since the second inning began. He took an excellent catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell, and celebrated every wicket as if he were the bowler himself.
Hence, when the match came down to the 17 runs required for CSK to qualify in the final over, everyone felt nervous, especially since MS Dhoni was on strike.
The veteran Indian batter smashed a humongous six on the very first ball of the game, sending the opposition into a frenzy. However, they were unable to score the remaining 11 runs in the over, courtesy of a good final over by Yash Dayal.
Following the last delivery, which Ravindra Jadeja failed to put away, the scene was ecstatic, to say the least. There were high and low emotions, and Virat Kohli couldn’t believe his team had made it through.
RCB the comeback champions in IPL
RCB started the season on the worst possible note. With one win from the first eight games, everyone wrote them off. However, they managed to turn things around by winning their remaining six games tremendously.
Through all the lows and the highs, Virat Kohli was the most consistent performer for the team. He also leads the charge for Orange Cap, with 708 runs from 14 innings.
Regarding the win, Faf du Plessis, the RCB captain, said, “What a night! Such a great atmosphere… it’s crazy; even when we weren’t winning, we had the fans here. It was set up perfectly- CSK vs RCB! Thank you everyone for their support.”
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad on 22nd May in the Eliminator round. The winner of that match will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Chennai.
