Shubman Gill might have had a great start to his career as an IPL captain. However, there are some jitters in your stomach when you are to prove your worth in the biggest franchise tournament. That may have happened with the Indian stalwart when he made a fumble during the toss between the CSK and GT matches.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the home captain, flipped the coin during the toss, and Gill called it right. Upon being asked what he would do, having won the toss, the GT captain fumbled and said, “We would bat first.” The young captain quickly recognised and immediately corrected his mistake, saying his team would bowl first.
A fun moment at the Chepauk.

The final decision was that Gujarat Titans, having won the toss, had indeed elected to bowl first. The decision to do so must have been influenced by the fact that RCB opted to bat first against Chennai in the season’s first game. While it took some effort for them to reach a total of 173, the home team could do so easily while chasing.
GT’s first game might also have influenced the decision. The Titans had a tough night defending a total against MI. Their batters could not get out of the trenches in the first game; hence, a total on the board to chase down would have eased them and might have enticed Shubman Gill.
Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, came into the game with a clinical win against RCB in the first game. They were playing the second game in a row on their home ground, and Ruturaj was unfazed by the challenge they were facing.
