The 2008 IPL Auction Decision

During the 2008 IPL auction, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) had the opportunity to acquire Kohli but chose to bolster their bowling attack by selecting left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan instead. This decision allowed RCB to snap up Kohli, a move that would become a cornerstone for the franchise.

Despite having one of the most formidable squads over the years, RCB has yet to secure an IPL title. The team has reached the finals three times—in 2009, 2011, and 2016—but victory has eluded them. Vijay Mallya, who co-owned RCB when they acquired Kohli, recently expressed his hopes for the team and its star player. Ahead of RCB’s crucial playoff match, Mallya took to social media platform X to share his sentiments. He posted, “When I bid for the RCB franchise and I bid for Virat, my inner instinct told me that I could not have made better choices. My inner instinct tells me that RCB have the best chance to go for the IPL Trophy. Onward and Upward. Best of luck.”

Mallya’s Departure from RCB

Mallya purchased RCB in 2008, but his tenure was cut short due to financial troubles that led to his departure from India. In 2016, following his default on loans, RCB informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about Mallya’s resignation from his position as Director of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL).

Mallya’s post quickly gained traction, amassing nearly 1.1 million views within hours. The message has sparked various reactions from fans and followers, highlighting the enduring connection between Mallya, Kohli, and the RCB franchise.
